SPINNING STRAW INTO GOLD.

Moon Lee Ferguson is a Jamaican-American filmmaker based in South Florida. She is known for her viral, award-winning fantasy series, Juju: The Web Series, which made her a finalist for the $100K Comcast Black Experience On Xfinity Grant Award. Her love for storytelling stems from her childhood admiration for Florida’s history, folklore, and mysticism. Since 2019, Moon has gone on to create and produce many other projects across genres, such as Robyn Hood starring Gail Bean (Snowfall) and Daniel Augustin (Rap Sh!t) on REVOLTV, Criblore, A Horror Anthology starring Brittany S. Hall (David Makes Man) and Keturah Maree (The Other Black Girl) on BlackOakTV, and The Newlyweds starring LaToya Tonodeo (Power Book II: Ghost), Arlen Escapeta (Found), and Alex Hibbert (The Chi).

Her most recent project, Skettel, is a short film that serves as proof of concept for her feature film. The film follows a single mother who struggles to keep her head above water while trying to tackle the day on a quarter tank of gas. The feature is a coming-of-age story of self-discovery and victory, which shows the world of a Jamaican American juggling parental and societal expectations, the welfare system, and what self-love looks like. Moon’s real-life experience as a young, single mother navigating life, love, and adulthood while being present for a toddler with special needs fueled this story's idea. The film is led by the talented, upcoming actress Alicia Pilgrim (A Thousand and One, HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness.)

In the nonfiction space, Moon has worked on network shows that have put Black stories to the forefront, such as Street Food (Netflix) and The 1619 Project (Hulu), mixed with short documentary profiles for BIPOC non-profit organizations supporting children’s education, Black maternity advocacy, and human rights. In addition, she produced a short documentary on Brehanna Daniels, NASCAR’s first Black Woman pit crew member and tire changer, which was an official selection for the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival and 2023 Urbanworld Film Festival, and an Audience Award winner for the 2023 Blackstar Film Festival.

Moon hopes to continue to create wondrous, fantastical worlds and characters through different mediums. Art that serves others and sends a message to the world and stories where characters triumph through adversaries.
